Application for NIE

Non-residents in Spain are obliged to obtain an NIE number (number of identification for foreigners). It is necessary to have an NIE number in order to carry out any type of transaction in Spain. Applications are made at the National Police Station and you will have to return to collect it approximately three days later.

You will be presented with a temporary certificate which will last for three months (this is stated at the bottom). Once you have an NIE number it will not change. However, after three months you will need to apply for another NIE certificate.
